To his utter shock, Jace won the race.

As all of those things happened that he had dreamed of, all he could think of was his mate. He kept looking around for her, and then realizing that she was back home in Peru, in their village, with their clan.

Home. He had referred to Peru as his home. And that's how he thought of it.

He panicked a little over that. It's too soon. It's way too soon for me to feel like that is my home.

But the feeling didn't change. One freaking week in Peru was enough to convert him? How did that make sense?

Or maybe it did. Maybe he’d been working so hard to deny his heritage for so long that now his dragon was rebelling, and trying to force Jace to find his place in the world.

Mine, his dragon roared. Katia!

Hell, Katia didn't even have to be present for his dragon to start wanting her. His dragon was restless and demanding, and Jace couldn’t sleep in the frigid hotel room. He went out on the balcony, and felt much more at peace in the warm desert air than he had inside in the air conditioning.

The following day, he attended parties, spoke with the press, and accepted his awards. He finally broke away to video call Katia.

“Congratulations!” she yelled into the phone. Behind her the entire clan was gathered. They flung natural confetti into the air as they all cheered for him. It looked like it had been made from grass and leaves. Little bits of it landed in Katia's glossy dark hair.

Forget his racing career. At that moment, he wanted nothing more than to be at home with her.

He could sit there and psychoanalyze himself all day. He could wonder why he didn’t care enough about the one thing he’d always wanted. But he did neither of those things.

He got on Lorenzo's private jet and he flew straight back to Peru. Back to Katia, his wife and mate.
